Damn I’ve been swamped the past week, am i too late for Squad Santa?

  • cptcarnage 7:16 pm on December 5, 2012 Permalink

    @beige tricky question 🙂

First thing that comes to mind is a digital tuner in a small media center pc but I don’t know how that can be made simple. Windows Media Center does include a PVR function as to whether it can be transferred and viewed else where I don’t know, seems it records in a special wtv format. Boxee can play the wtv files but there seems to be issues with it. There’s a guide here on how to automate the conversion of the file to an MP4 but I think the file size could end up being huge.
    http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/7748/windows-7-media-center-and-itunes-how-to-convert-and-import-recorded-tv-shows-into-itunes/

    I’ll keep diggin

Edit: how’d i manage to get this funky format on the reply?

Damn beige beat me to it.

Can I get a “Whoop! There it is!” people?!

Also at the $100 level uhh this is a bit creepy.

“At the $100 level, in addition to all the previous rewards, you get a custom, full-sized Cyberdwarf body pillow to spend your lonely nights with. Though his knotted b-ball skin is rough, his touch is tender and his luscious applebottom is shapely domed. The Cyberdwarf body pillow ships with pillow case only, pillow not provided. Warning: Cyberdwarf is a well-established tsundere.”

@bowlisimo Hopefully you can dock, I’ve been wondering this as I’ve got another friend with a Hornet, his buddy has a Constellation as well. Convoy anyone 🙂

@bluesforbuddha every little bit helps, thanks for the offer, package was $250 for that ship so anything you can throw my way would help. I’m currently resisting all the “additional” ships they are offering. I’m hoping we can design a custom livery for the squad at some point.

The great thing is though is that any ship you get through the preorder/kickstarter has lifetime insurance, you just lose any mod’s you’ve added to the ship. If you were to achieve the ship in game, you’d need to pay a fee for insurance, and even then you’d only get back a percentage of its value.

Its the exploration aspect that has me a little stoked for the game, dog fightings all well and good but I love the prospect of an open universe to explore and trade in. Or pirate if the whim takes me.

    And my bow 🙂

I’m down for something like that. I’ve got a few ideas rattling around in my skull from way to many fantasy novels chewed through over the past few years. Dont forget Barkley started development in RPG maker to.

As for Squad Santa, I’m in too.

@bowlisimo been playing that for the past few months after preordering in November.

Great little game and it really teaches you the basics for what is required for launching a craft. Its rocket science!!

oh and there is hope for your lost kerbalnauts you can mount a rescue mission.

This article put the nail in the coffin on me canceling the renewal on my XBL Gold account.

    http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/ads-up-games-down-the-ugly-profitable-truth-about-xbox-live-advertising

I just don’t play enough multiplayer to justify it as an expense. For Netflix, I’ve got my PS3. It’s been fun but seriously, the mint they are making off of it kindof sickens me.

@cgrajko mainly due to my cash strapped state i’ve found my self in a similar situation. It kindof puts things into perspective with Steam too, my games list is 240+ strong on there and I can only honestly say I’ve played maybe 25% of the game that I own.

Another thing that hurts is when I run my account through http://www.steamcalculator.com/ (its main page is down at the moment but you can access it buy adding http://www.steamcalculator.com/id/ and your username). It spits out $2750, now I know I didn’t pay that as it uses raw values for the games prices and alot of them I got through the various indie bundles over the last few years.

Also with the badges system recently implemented into the profile pages I realized that this September I will have been using Steam for 9 years. I signed up September 14th 2003.

@redswir1 @beige Around $2300 Canadian shipped. Used NCIX.com for everything but the videocard they have a local pickup option if you are looking for PC parts + they price match ANY Canadian site, also for $50 they’ll build and stress test your computer for you, $30 w/o the stress test. I’m familiar with building them, this is about my 15th build so far (I pretty much built every machine in our design department at my office)

The video card was the biggest lump at $657 after tax and shipping. Got the 256GB ssd at a steal for 200$, WD1.5tb drive was $120 (didnt need it but wanted a sata3 storage, was originally planning on stealing HDD’s from my old case). case and powersupply were $130, motherboard $300 (its a tweakers board i’m going to dabble with overclocking in the near future). Bluray drive was $62, processor $215, ram $115 (2x8sticks for 16gb you could save going for 4 of 4). Liquid cooler was $90.

@bowlisimo the unit is self contained, no need to mess with pumps or anything else its just a simple install. idles at around 27c with ambient around 20c.

    Wait Minecraft?!

I’ve been playing it non stop for the last 2 years on another server, and I’m currently a moderator on there (www.minecraftaddicts.com).

I’ve recently dived into Tekkit http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/ think minecraft with wacky machines and electricity.

I’ll defiantly join in! Also @beige? Keep the IP private if you could, I’m not sure how to keep it to members here but its still a good idea. The old server I hosted back in 2010 for the squad (which I recently dusted off the map for and took a look around) was griefed pretty badly by some random guy who found the IP on the squawkbox.

Yeah, this it typical. Visa’s tapped on the new computer and the surprise $1300 repair bill on my car and the steam sale pops up.

    VISA prepare to scream!

To add insult to injury the motherboard I purchased was just released and they are out of stock. Who knows when I’ll get it.

I’ll stick build pics here once I get everything, going to go mental with cable management if I can help it this time.

Oh and @angryjedi, I’m with you on MLP. I haven’t watched the whole thing but I can say its odd that watching a show like that for an hour or so can really lift your mood. Its not pointless mind fluff, there is some substance to it.

@redswir1Thats pretty much what I’m planning to do with my old PC, its a core 2 2.66 with a gtx280. If I can get it running stably (It probably needs a new power supply have to cycle it once to get it to boot) I’ll move it into the den and hook it up to the tv. It runs Skyrim relatively well and its more then suitable for a media pc.

Defiantly an expensive day for me :-/

Just finished ordering my new PC. My old one’s starting to act funky, and at 5 yrs old its getting a bit tired. I’m coming from a 2.66ghz core 2 w/6gb ram and a GTX 280 to a brand spankin new i5 3570k (3.8ghz) 16gb ram and a GTX 680. Even threw in a 256gb SSD for good measure. All told tax in it was just a hair over $2k :-/ cheaper then my original system though by about a grand not that that is very comforting.

Looking forward to running Witcher 2 at the settings it deserves.

On another note, my XBL Gold is coming up this month for renewal and I’m finding it hard to justify paying the 60 bones to keep it going. I just don’t see the need for it since I don’t really play that much online. Would it be particularly crippling to just get rid of it?

A heads up about an Alternative Indie bundle group http://www.indieroyale.com

They work a bit differently then the Humble Bundle, but I like the fact that they give you individual steam codes for each game. That way if you have a duplicate you can gift it to someone.

I thought it was worth mentioning it as they have Cthulhu saves the world up in there current bundle.

And with those, my steam account cracks the big 200 for my game list. If I am ever unemployed at least I’ll be entertained o,O

@redswir1 Its not that bad, we get reamed on amazon though our selections nerfed pretty bad. Netflix is also severely limited.

On the digital front, Steam’s awesome. No 13% sales tax and with the exchange you usually save $10 on a new $50 game.

@angryjedi if you got anymore codes fire me one, I could use the motivation.

As for Arkham City, I’m REALLY torn on it, I LOVED the first one. I may get it to bolster my confidence between Dark Souls sessions. Forza 4 isn’t filling that niche although it is pretty. I’m EXTREMELY happy they decided to include a MK1 MR2 in it this year. I auto crossed one for several years and currently Ice Race one. Quick nimble little car that with a little modification can slap the pants off of most supercars.

Sweet! Went to the Microplay in Newmarket after @bluesforbuddha s problems with eb and Dark Souls and nabbed the collectors edition. First time I’ve bought from them but the owner was an old high school friend so I gave them a shot.

So begins the journey of the thief, Carnage Storm! Hour in and well I’m impressed. Deaths have been fair to be sure (mostly me being an ass). Time will tell as to if I have the gumption to stick with it.

All this buzz has piqued my interest to say the least.

All told though should a guy who likes a casual game once and a while, but still enjoys something a bit meatier and masochistic (IE Super Meat Boy) pony up for Dark Souls?

It looks like something I’d enjoy but the difficulty factor is scaring me off, am I nuts for feeling like this?
