@redswir1 Thanks for the heads up. I’ll probably pick it up tonight.

@feenwager Don’t know if it’s too late, but Blood Money just went on sale for $7 at Direct2Drive. I’ve seen you on Steam playing The Witcher and if you can run that, BM is a far less demanding game.
Local Gamestop did not have the Hitmans, used or otherwise. Looks like after all that, Geralt and I may finally be throwing down.
I shall keep your suggestions close, gents…and I shall tackle them eventually.

A couple of things:
Why does Microsoft think Hitman: Blood Money is worth $30 to download? That’s retarded.
Hopefully my local Gamestop has a used copy.
So Apple has provided drivers for the Magic Trackpad that work within Bootcamp. This means I don’t have to switch to another mouse when going to Windows. This development is really, really making me want to take a stab at The Witcher for once and for all.

@feenwager Funny you should pick Hitman: Blood Money. That game’s been clawing at me recently thanks to the upcoming sequel. I’m interested on hearing how well it’ll hold up.
Sure…NOW you mention Lords Of Shadow, which I already own.
Let’s see how much motivations I gots to go to the Gamestop tomorrow.
Ok, so I’ve given it some thought and I think I’m going to go with Hitman: Blood Money. The more I looked at it, I’m not sure why I’ve never given the series a shot before.
Looks like my local Gamestop has it in stock used, so I’ll go pick it up tomorrow.
More to come.
In that list, Earthbound is the only one I’ve actually played.
That’s it? I still don’t have a good idea of what @feenwager HASN’T played.

So, the suggestion box thus far contains the following:
- Dwarf Fortress
- Just Cause 2
- Viking: Battle for Asgard
- Battlestations Pacific
- Hitman Blood Money
- Mini Ninjas
Come on, Squaddies. Put bread on @feenwager‘s table.

Some great Steam deals today, and a good effort by you, @RedSwirl, waiting for that final price drop on FS.
It’s been a good sale thus far for strategy titles in general. Men of War: AS for 7 smackers yesterday or the day before, RUSE for a tenner today, as is Supreme Commander 2. Surely a few Squaddies would find those interesting.
Another suggestion for @feenwager would be Hitman: Blood Money. Bit trial and error’y, but remarkably satisfying. Filled to the brim with dark humour and a terrific sense of place. For some reason, and maybe coming under fire for being somewhat contrarian, but where the NPCs of Assassin’s Creed felt like automaton, the Hitman world’s citizenry seemed far more alive. And Agent 47…I mean, you cannot find a more bad-arse bad-arse than him.
Available on PC, 360.
Oh, and I’ll throw in Mini Ninjas, too. The game for people who like Zelda-esque romps, but want something a little different. Funnily enough, I read it was a game IO Interactive made because their usual fare was far too dark, depressing and violent to take home and play with their young families. Highly recommend Mini Ninjas.
Available on PC, Mac, PS3, 360.
Happy 4th of July, US comrades.
I support STALKER. Just Cause 2, while technically impressive, is just another sandbox romp.

@redswirl Yeah, it seems to have eroded a bit since release.
My mind isn’t even close to made up. Let’s hear those suggestions!

Okay, we may as well drop some variety into this buffet. @feenwager, I bring two more suggestions:
Viking: Battle for Asgard – Strangely, I’ve heard V:BfA likened to a Norse-themed Fable with untold levels of button-mashy violence. Whatever the case, it’s a bit of a quiet achiever in my book. Not the perfect game by any means, and does suffer a little in terms of slight repetition, but it’s a savage and well-rounded hack ‘n’ slash with large, open countryside to traverse about and do Viking things. It channels a lot from those earlier, darker weapon-based combat action games like Severance, but to be amidst an epic battle with hundreds of your clansmen at your side is pretty exciting. A little bit of an unsung diamond in the rough.
Available on 360, PS3.
Battlestations Pacific – A personal favourite, partly due to the fact you can control battleships. The campaign is pretty good, offset by some atrocious voice-acting, and the meshing of action and RTS-lite isn’t the mish-mash of Brutal Legend. Switching between PT boats, Destroyers, Transports, Battleships, etc., and a whole slew of aircraft – fighters, bombers, torpedo bombers et al – is a breeze, as is directing vessels and aircraft on the map. I always do a horrible job of conveying just how fun my strategy picks actually are, but this is one particular title I recommend wholeheartedly as a game with strategic elements for everyone.
Available on 360, PC, Mac.
I suppose your mind is already made up, but hell, if you settle on Just Cause 2, you’ll be right as rain. As @bowlisimo said, the story is pure cornball, but I think that’s part of its charm. It really does feel like the Once Upon A Time In Mexico movies let loose after raiding Q’s laboratory. The stuff you can do.
Tell ya guys one thing: Dwarf Fortress ain’t happening.
So at the moment, it looks like I’ll be playing Just Cause 2 unless we get some really interesting responses up in this piece.

Really? You’re recommending Dwarf Fortress to Feen?
Jeff, I recall you liked Super Meat Boy, why not try VVVVVV? It’s good indie cheap fu with an old school flavor that will only take ~3 hours of your life (depending on how well you handle the Veni, Vidi,Vici screens).
Edit: I agree with UMD’s Just Cause 2 vote. Zipping around with the parachute and attaching to vehicles stayed fun right up until I finished the game’s dumb “story”.

@feenwager Then I put forth Just Cause 2. It’s the game Mercenaries 2 should have been, but aside from that, amazing engine powering a ridiculous game and a showcase of just how far a studio can come when they iterate intelligently. One of the few games from my library I can heartily recommend to you, Jeff. Given our particular tastes and consumption, that’s not as easy a feat as it sounds!
One hell of a game, on any platform.
Actually, this quick primer video should do a better job describing JC2. Amazing stuff.
I’m deliberately not saying what may or may not be on my Pile. I’m willing to purchase something in the name of science if need be.
And no, I have not played Just Cause 1 or 2.

@feenwager It might be overlapping slightly and you might be looking for a genre palate-cleanser, but did you play Just Cause 2?

I finished inFamous 2 last night. Overall, pretty good stuff. Kind of the inverse of the first game, in that it had a relatively interesting story, but the gameplay eventually got monotonous. I liked the final act quite a bit this time, which is a marked departure from the first game. Solid 7 in my book, assuming you actually use all 10 numbers in the scale.
That said…I don’t know what to play next, so I’m leaving it up to the Squad.
Here’s the deal, I’ll probably start my next “for real” game Monday evening. You have until then to throw a bunch of suggestions my way. I’ll pick what seems to be the consensus, or whatever someone makes the best case for.
Here’s my promise: I’ll play whatever we (you) pick until the end. But if I hate it, you’re gonna hear it loud and long. So be careful what you wish for.
The rules: it has to be readily available for current gaming systems not named Wii. PC is ok, I’ve gots the Boot Camps. Also, it can’t be something I’ve already finished.
