Guys, Best Buy Black Friday deals just marched in, and Diablo III is gonna be $35. I checked out the trial back in the summer and decided I couldn’t justify $60 with the always-online DRM (I was having internet problems to boot then). Now, to be honest the Torchlight II demo drew me in much more effectively and now I’m more interested in that game than in DIII.

Ugh, me too. I get that simulator sickness thing sporadically and it’s usually due to a low default FOV setting. Prime offenders: Duke Nukem 3D, Half-life 2, Minecraft. I also don’t think I would do well with one of those VR headsets the industry seems to be so into at the moment. Mind sees jumping + body feels not jumping = wtfvomit?

@unmanneddrone Jebediah Kerman landed on the Mun last night, intact. Unfortunately, the top heavy munar lander tipped over upon touch down (after a nail biting few seconds of teetering) and rendered the ascent stage impossible. Whatever, achievement unlocked. Total cost in Kerbals? 50+? Worth it. Hopping around in low grav is a delight. Next time, rover mod. If only you could establish a forward base…

That game really opens itself up once you understand how to achieve orbit and manipulate your orbit by burning at certain points in certain directions. Gravity does most of the work. Still, any results are mostly by accident. I feel like a chimpanzee trying to operate the large hadron collider sometimes.

@cgrajko @beige @angryjedi Whenever you guys want to play Torchlight 2…

*glosses over the conversation about paying the Russian mafia for cheap video game keys*

Played a buttload of Torchlight 2 co-op last weekend. Not a whole lot to say, the game is pretty self-explanatory, just look at it. I was afraid playing it so soon after Diablo would be a problem, but it hasn’t been. Turns out that another game in the same vein, with its own beautiful aesthetics, and a good mechanical feel, is all it takes to get the hooks in again. Put on some techno or whatever, smash some zugs around the world, collect the loot, and then send your pet back to town to sell all that junk and buy potions (this is still the best thing ever).

Actually, I will say this: it’s tough to swallow the “fuck you, you picked it and now you’re stuck with it” skill/stats system again (I HATE allocating stats!), especially after Diablo 3’s (IMO) fresh take on selecting abilities. T2 does lets you respec up to your last three skill points, but it’s not enough. Look, I’m only going to play through this maybe two times, just let me reset the whole damn thing, who cares?

You should also know that the story is probably even less interesting than Diablo 3’s.

Me just after reaching the 2nd Act: “SAND. WHY IS IT ALWAYS SAND?”
Friend: “It’s the rule of the 2nd act. It has to be in the desert.”

@squad Just hit me up on Steam if you want to play

After checking out the demo I’m already much more invested in Torchlight II than I ever was in the first game. I’ll eventually buy it, I just don’t know at what price. But what’s the likelihood of co-op going on here? Borderlands 2 definitely seems to be the dominant loot game from my perspective.

Edit: I’ve been able to get in like an hour of a rental copy of B2 and it feels… slow. In literally every other aspect it seems like a great loot game combined with a good shooter, but I don’t know about $59.99 great. I think the “slowness” however is just this being the first FPS I’ve attempted on a console in some time, especially since I just finished DOOM and DOOM II – slick games where your character runs at 40mph. There’s also no way a shooter could move at the pace of TII, which compared to B2 feels similar but more immediate.

I dunno. In this short amount of time in B2 I’ve already got a handful of quests piled up so that shows I’m getting invested. Maybe I should have rolled assassin like I planned to do if I ever bought the game – definitely more my playstyle in shooters which would’ve made the genre combination more enjoyable for me.

On the whole loot subject, for some reason I decided to start DeathSpank a couple weeks ago so I’ll probably be blazing through that before I decide to pull the trigger on TII. How much is there really to do in B2?

Lemme put it this way: I’d probably pounce on B2 at the first sign of a sale, but how many of you guys would even be left to play co-op?

Some of you guys might see me playing Borderlands 2 on Xbox. That’s just me checking out a rental copy and possibly buying it on PC later. No idea about Torchlight II unless there’s a demo.

Also, my fear is that by the time I do decide to get Borderlands 2, everyone on my friends list playing it now will have either moved on to another game or gotten high level.

Pass. BORED-erlands 2 is Steam Sale fodder for me. Torchlight 2, on the other hand, I could be persuaded to buy. It’s also 1/3 the price and is 6-player.

Actually, I enjoyed Borderlands but it’s not the kind of game I crave. Shootin’ and lootin’ with no narrative hooks. Fun, but shallow. You could say that Torchlight is basically the same thing, and to that I say, “fuck off”.

@unmanneddrone What’s Steam Japan like anyway? Are most of the people on it gaijin just living in Japan, or is there an actual sizable Japanese language Steam community?

Anyway, holy crap 13 people on my friends list have already bought in. Crap. Oh, and Torchlight II comes out in two days. Once again we have loot-fest versus loot-fest… and I’m still broke.
