@redswir1 A great day. ‘Twas a hard struggle amidst the Meat Boy era to sell the magnificence of the Super Crate Box experience, but at the click of a button and the familiarity of Steam, let many come to know thy face, sire of Vlambeer.

@redswir1 It’d be horrid to be THAT GUY and crow about how he had mentioned how great Super Crate Box early in 2011, so to dodge that bullet, I’ll just back you up on its awesomeness and mention there are PC and OSX freeware versions if you want to see if it’s your cup of tea.

I think it’s brilliant. Amazing gameplay.

@bowlisimo Yeah, those Metal Gear games…good heavens, I love the visual design. It’s the small things, too…like having a FAMAS as the go-to weapon in MGS. A FAMAS! A French bullpup of all things, predicated obviously on the fact that it just looks cool. It worked wonderfully on the old PSone as its a weapon that uses a lot of parallel lines, with little in the way of curvature outside of magazines.

Anyway, I digress. Glad MGS is floating your boat. Would love another portable version, as the hope of a PC version after they stopped at MGS2: Substance is perhaps a pointless candle to keep lit.

Played a little Demigod last night. Man, the visual design in that one – regardless of gameplay (which is excellent) – makes me wonder why people settle for the litany of tired old DOTA stalwarts. Demigod is gorgeous. Along with Stellar Impact, I wish people would branch out beyond the usual trappings of dwarves and elves in the MOBA subset.

I suspect it has a little something to do with, ahem, player count. Sigh.

@sinfony Hear hear. Even though the damn thing isn’t on PS3, I used to play its ancestor on PC. But it certainly is part of this curious and wonderful clutch of tough 2D plane gems with that old timey sensibility of making you work for your end level.

I challege @beige on his throne of self-styled masochism to investigate TerRover on PSN. Loco Roco meets Trials HD; a physics system that will either put hairs on one’s chest, or make a man pull them out himself by the fistful. The demo doesn’t do the game justice. And here’s my Super Crate Box stats thus far:

    Crates – 858
    Kills – 1243
    Deaths – 217
    Minutes – 62

Seriously engaging and wonderful sound and music.

@RedSwirl Fair enough. I actually think Enslaved was the perfect “action game for busy people”. It didn’t mess about, you got through the game and BAM, if you weren’t satisfied with the actual mechanics, you’d be an idiot not to be satisfied with the real reason to play that – Trip and Monkey.

I can see how you’d be annoyed at the lack of platforming freedom, even in regards to basic ledges and channelling progression.

Oh, here’s a freebie that is refreshingly unrelated to Halloween. Super Crate Box. Since many are on a Meatboy high and the air is filled with the delightful stench of ye olde schoolery, this wonderful little game should fit the bill. Get crate requirement, finish level. Fight the horde. Download – http://bit.ly/clFQrB
