I added Magicka, Just Cause 2, and Witcher 2 to my haul today. Whew. Enough.

@feenwager I’m going to get into Darkspore probably later in the year. Loved the beta and strange take on the loot ‘n’ level it had. A price drop is all it needs for me to jump in. I found the narrative quite charming/interesting in the beta. Rarely do you get such care put into a game of its ilk…though, many didn’t agree with me on that one. Ho hum.

In the end, my Steam pile (this is my first Steam sale, would you believe!) ended as follows:

    • AI War: Fleet Command
    • Alpha Protocol
    • Audiosurf
    • C&C4
    • GTAIV+Episodes from Liberty City
    • Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light

Plus, Civ V from Gamersgate slotted into Steam like a duck’s gut, as they say.

Been playing a few hours of Alpha Protocol over the weekend, and wow…what a classy effort. Some bugs, like having to turn off forced AA in my ATI manager to stop invisible conversation text and reworking a few choices in the config INI to stop a strange flitting camera issue, but for someone who hasn’t really played an RPG for a while – not counting Ukrainian curiosities – it’s nice to dip one’s toes back in the water with AP. The dialogue/VA is a highlight, even if there’s a little mechanical jank here and there.

I’d be interested to hear other Squaddies’ thoughts on this title.

@UMD I never went down the Total Annihilation “tech tree” (as Beige’s wife calls it) of the RTS genre. I watched my friend play SupComm a bunch when it came out, and borrowed both games from him not too long ago. I quit out and uninstalled it before I beat the first mission of the first game.

To a man raised on Blizzard, Westwood, and Ensemble (and now Relic), the presentation was just…lacking. The robots and buildings didn’t excite me, the environment was bland, and I disliked the economic model. I usually don’t have THAT strong of a reaction to a game, but I dunno, for some reason it didn’t click.

So, I respect those games from afar for pushing the sheer scale of things to insane heights, but as epic as they are, the SupComm series may not appeal to everyone here, even for 4 bucks.

I’m less upset at Hitman being $5 less the next day than I would have been at the opposite.

Grabbed the NWN 2 deal for $7. Sweet.

As a purely clinical exercise, is DNF worth $25?

Grabbed Hitman. I’ve made that mistake myself. Always wait until the last day of a Steam sale to buy a game, when you can be sure it isn’t going to be one of the daily sales.

Anyone want to get this Portal 2 summer achievement with me while I wait for X3 to download?

My total damage this summer sale ain’t much, and a lot of it actually isn’t from Steam:

    • Frozen Synapse
    • Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
    • Civilization V from GamersGate
    • Dragon Age 2 from GamersGate
    • Earlier I also nabbed Thief and Bulletstorm from GamersGate. They’re starting to get up there.

Didn’t mean to sound down on Legend. It was good stuff, for sure, minus the vehicle sections anyway.

@sinfony Scraping by so far, with Bit.trip Runner, Pripyat, and Alpha Protocol. Spent more time and energy in doing these camp activity achievements for free chit. If you just did the one mundane steam task every day, you could come away with Alien Breed 2 (so what, it’s a free game), and two free dlc packs, or summer junk for Portal 2 and TF2. Why not?
