@angryjedi Obviously, I highly recommend the Oddworld games. If you liked Flashback or Bermuda Syndrome, you’d be right at home with Abe’s Oddysee and Exoddus, given that they’re puzzle-platformers at heart. Munch is kinda the weakest of the bunch, but it’s still a very satisfying game for a fellow willing to let a few things slide. Stranger is a magnificent beast…on all levels.

The remake (either of Oddysee or including Exoddus), while coming out next year, is immediately a must-get. Until then, I’d say nabbing either of them on PSP via the PSone range would be a fine way to tackle them. Otherwise, the Oddbox on Steam contains all four Oddworld games and is good to go, as they say.

A mighty welcome to Lou Page ( @tornconflict ) and @mattcaulder. Get comfortable and opine!

Just wanted to relay some information from Oddworld Inhabitants on the recent Abe’s Oddysee reboot initiative. It all sounds too tasty for words.

The new Abe title IS the HD remakes… However we didn’t want to get people confused with just upscaled versions of the original titles, which is what we are NOT doing, never was.

We are making a 2.5D version of the title, with a physics based engine, which means we can make the anims and world seem much more dynamic.

The big thing I always wanted to do is to make sure that the gameplay was altered as LITTLE as POSSIBLE, yes there are some changes due to the fact we’re scrolling and not flip screening anymore, but that’s about it really.

The BIG difference with this one is the backgrounds, those non-interactive environments behind the gameplay are going to be teeming with life now.

The analogy I like to make is in Ridge Racer you just had a drift racer, but they had little events going off in the background that kept you looking away from the action.

We are doing the same with this, so where perhaps you saw a small 32×32 cycling animation of a barrel going past a window, now you’ll have cranes moving in the background hauling barrels about all over the place, with spotlights patrolling around lighting up different parts of Rupture Farms.

The Oddworld…uh…world is one of my beloved artistic triumphs for the medium; from the awesome menagerie and their delicious animations and distinctive sounds to the architecture and ambience, so to see it not so much fully realised, but invigorated by horsepower and technology, makes my day. I know we throw a lot of things on the “Pile of Investigation”, but it’d be nice to do a run with the Squad and refresh our collective memories on the quaint, quirky and deliciously dark experiences the Oddworld titles offer up.

Best news out of E3 didn’t appear to come from E3, rather Oddworld Inhabitants’ Facebook page.

Ok so here’s the skinny on “Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee”…

We decided to reboot it, not just an HD update to the original PS1 title, this is a NEW game. It will be getting its first public showing LATER this year, with a release date of NEXT summer (2013).

Being a huge Oddworld fan, this pleases me more than anything else…and almost takes the sour taste of Rayman Legends being a goddamn Wii U exclusive out of my mouth. Outside of that, intrigued by Assassin’s Creed: Liberation and the promise of it having an actual jump button (that automated traversal business from the mainline games irks me no end) and allegedly much harder combat. Good stuff.

Now bring on the underdogs. Roll the junkets out and start shining those torches on the interesting stuff.

I’m certainly interested in seeing some Vita Oddworld shenanigans…Oddworld Inhabitants state we’ll get to see footage of Munch and Stranger running on the portable at the event, which will be terrific.

Outside of that, a little more Soul Sacrifice footage would be nice. Can’t really think of anything beyond that. Yeah, this show is, for me, all about seeing what will be hitting the Vita down the line. Generally speaking, though, these events only make me a little weary and perhaps unwillingly cognizant at industry hyperbole. I do wish there was an RPS-esque filter one could apply and sieve out only the interesting gems hidden in the shadows.

Gravity Rush in a few days (or a week, to include shipping from the States). @tolkoto loved it, I certainly loved what I played of the JPN version.
