@angryjedi We’ll see. Coincidentally Gears 3 also get’s some free new maps tonight which I assume will be available for Horde mode. Man, you guys should really try that out, even if you did Gears 2 horde. I guess it’s about an equal choice between that and Dungeon though. They’re both almost the same game except one of them has guns and the other is an ARPG.

Since I just got DD I don’t know about the DLC yet. Maybe if that goes down during the holiday sale.

@feenwager I could definitely see myself continuing to play one mode of Gears 3 or another years from now. I haven’t even touched anything since finishing the campaign but I’m definitely interested in horde and versus bots (that’s just how I roll). I guess I could jump into horde if I saw any of you guys in a party.

Not sure about GOTY contender yet, definitely within its own category. I mean, the campaign is pretty much great in every way: a lot of variety, one great set piece after another, fun core gameplay, even above-average handling of the story. That part of Gears 3 is as great as we expected it to be, but honestly a few other games this year may have impressed me more.

What’s really messed up is how much I’ve been drawn back into Resident Evil 4. I know it came out in 2005 and all, but it’s starting to become one of the releases I most want to keep playing this year. I’m now in a Professional (hardcore) mode new game+ saving up money for the typewriter, and this is still one of the greatest games ever made.

I’m seriously starting to think of RE4 as the gaming equivalent of Aliens or the original Predator in terms of its impact on the action genre in its respective medium… except imagine if Aliens was three and a half hours long and paced just as well. Not since RE4 have I seen an action game that manages to deliver almost 20 hours of all-killer-no-filler.

Now that I have the game on my hard drive and a click away, I have a feeling that every time I turn on my Xbox for whatever reason, I’ll devote a few minutes to some RE4.

Guys do I really need ALL of the classic D&D CRPGs? http://www.gog.com/en/page/dnd_promo

My plan was to just play Baldur’s Gate II and Planetscape eventually, and then if i liked those check out Icewind Dale, etc. I don’t even know yet if I can stand to play a totally isometric game (honestly I just don’t like the way they look). The closest I’ve gotten is the PC version of Dragon Age, and even there I only zoom out during combat.

On that subject, is it rare to be able to go to a Best Buy and reliably find new boxed copies of games as old as Fallout 2 for $10? Because every time I go there I have to put up with the game staring back at me. I know you can still easily find old Blizzard games at most stores, but up here I could even buy a boxed copy of Jedi Knight II.

@feenwager Yes, Gears 3 is indeed good – deserving of its maintream popularity. The one thing I have to say about the game is that it has variety. You always feel like there’s SOMETHING going on aside from you just shooting guys with guns, and it’s excellently paced to that end. I’ll even go as far as to say that the inclusion of female Gears throughout the campaign really helped defuse the bro-ness of the experience.

I have acquired an extra Gears 3 code if anyone here would be willing to actually get together on the thing this week.
