@feenwager If I’m anything to go by, you play it feverishly for around a week or two, then set it aside as one can pretty much do all one wants and needs to do in that kind of timeframe.

That said, Game Dev Story 2 should be coming out within the year…and it’s got a lot more detail. Kairosoft are certainly THE Japanese PC-Mobile developers to follow. Such a good back catalogue to pluck from for this smartphone generation. A terrific array of management games; record companies, kart racing team, cruise liners, galactic colonisation etc. Since I never had quite the 16bit affinity many did, these games with their delicious little pixel art do the trick.

Hot Springs Story is probably better on the iPad, but it doesn’t have quite the level of simplistic control you have in GDS. I’d recommend it if you liked…uh…any of the Hotel Tycoon games, or maybe even Theme Hospital? It really requires a lot of fiddling about, because in creating your onsen resort, you need to figure out complimentary positioning for rooms and facilities. Add to that item buffs for particular rooms.

Hint: Buy milk from town vendor, use on women’s hotspring. Super effective.

@feenwager You’ve gotta be happy with that! A lot of Dead Bull and perseverance!

@RedSwirl Nothing wrong with being cautious.

In my case, it’s a safe and affordable purchase I can put away some yen each month for, and considering I’ve got a nice little stock of original PSP titles on my account, there’ll be some older titles to soften the blow if the launch isn’t massively exciting. You know what would be good, though? A new Metal Gear AC!D title. Hell, I’d even settle for MGA2 appearing on the store. Quite possibly my favourite TBS on the system.

It’d be a nice combo, PC and PSVITA. I have to fight for the use of our TV most of the time if I want some PS3 time, and I rarely win against the female tag-team in the house.

@feenwager A truly epic little pocket game, that one. What’s your studio’s best game to date? Not to mention, a rather poignant little title to play during E3! Console unveilings, awards, etc.

Gaming highlights from the weekend that was, if you please!

Never thought I’d say this, but a few iPhone games have managed to impress – one in particular! The flavour of the month is, for many pundits, Game Dev Story. Just such a cute and smart little management strategy title. Too cool for the room references to the industry and a breezy UI. I’ve only got the free Lite version at the moment, but seriously considering throwing down the few pesos for the full thing. I’m just serving myself up a nice slice of humble pie from the @feenwager diner. Here’s to you, Feen.

Outside of that, locked away at the inlaws for the two days, inspired by Game Dev Story, I busted out the ol’ SimGolf. As awesome as always, the eccentric post-Sims Maxis interface and character emphasis mixed with Firaxis’ eye for putting spin on what would otherwise be pedestrian strategy is addictive and brimming with personality. It’d be a perfect fit for…*gulp* some sort of portable iDevice.
