Carmageddon Goes Mobile

The classic crash-and-splat racer is headed to iOS and Android this summer.

Doubtless you already know that Carmageddon is making a grand comeback at some point in the near future thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign that has smashed through its goal with five days to go.

Today, the increasingly-excitable team at Stainless Games announced that not only is the original game headed to our friends at very soon, but they’re also working on a mobile version, due to arrive sometime “this summer” on iOS with an Android version following shortly afterwards.

Both versions will feature touch and gesture controls (no word on whether the Android version will support external controllers as yet) and the facility to save action replays to YouTube. The iOS version will support Game Center for leaderboards and achievements and will also be a Universal app, allowing it to run on both iPad and iPhone/iPod touch.

All proceeds from the sale of the mobile game will go right back into the development of Carmageddon Reincarnation — though both the iOS and Android versions will be free for the first 24 hours after they launch as a “thank you” to the backers on Kickstarter.
