Based on what I played of the demo, Asura’s Wrath almost seems like a satire of modern videogames. Minimal input for ridiculous output—QTEs being the epitome of that style of game design.

The problem with QTEs is that they’re largely disconnected from the action on screen. They can put whatever insane video they want behind that button prompt, it doesn’t hide the fact that you’re engaging in a bare-minimum level of interaction in a medium defined by its interactivity.

So Asura’s Wrath looks at that and says, “OK, if it doesn’t matter what the fuck is going on behind the button prompt, then let’s dial this shit all the way to brain-puking insanity.” The stark contrast between input and ouput that results really demonstrates the absurdity of QTEs.
